Post-doc positions in Remote Sensing, UAVs and Precision Agriculture

The Hydrology, Agriculture and Land Observation (HALO) lab at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia is seeking to fill a number of post-doctoral positions across a range of exciting research topics. Candidates should have experience and training in at least two areas of agro-hydrological modeling, machine learning, high-resolution remote sensing or the application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Applicants will ideally have prior experience in product or process retrieval (hydrological, agricultural or vegetation), the use of advanced remote sensing analysis techniques (i.e. data integration and analytics), as well as a strong background in programming and modeling. We are looking for outstanding multi-disciplinary researchers with interest in any of the following broad topics:

  1. Application of big-data/machine learning approaches to remote sensing (e.g. land use classification, process retrieval, object tracking and monitoring, anomaly detection);

  2. Application of high-resolution satellite data, particularly as relates to retrieving variables relevant to food and water security challenges;

  3. Advanced modeling and data-integration approaches for improving crop health, nutrient and water use, or yield estimation in precision agricultural systems;

  4. Plant phenotyping approaches using UAVs, with particular experience integrating hyperspectral, LiDAR or thermal platforms with ground and lab based assessments.

Evidence of published research in these areas is a prerequisite for application. These positions present an exciting opportunity to exploit emerging sensors and platforms for advanced earth observation, and to develop new analysis and interpretation techniques addressing problems of local and global interest.

Located on the Red Sea 80 km north of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, KAUST is an international graduate level research University. KAUST offers an attractive tax-free compensation package that includes on-campus housing, annual travel allowance and health-insurance benefits. Positions are available for an initial two-year period, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidates will have access to cutting-edge facilities, collaboration with world leading multi-disciplinary faculty, considerable research support, and opportunities for international collaboration.

Applicants should send a 1-2 page resume that details their qualifications, relevant experience and list of journal publications, together with the contact information of at least two referees. Information should be addressed to Prof. Matthew McCabe at halo@kaust.edu.sa. A review of applications will begin immediately and continue until positions are filled.
