Summary

Australia’s first comprehensive Plan for developing Earth Observation capabilities across industry, government and research was launched last week.  The Plan is an initiative of the AEOCCG and we will be implementing its priorities.

This webinar reviewed the priorities for action identified in the plan, and outlined the proposed implementation activities in the short (1-3 months) and longer (> 1 year).

A wrap up of major national and international EO developments was also presented.

Summary

At this meeting we presented and reviewed progress on the Australian Earth Observation and Community Plan including the main results from a national survey of the EOS community. The Plan will be delivered and launched at the CEOS Town Hall meetings in Brisbane on 3 November 2016.  There was an open forum on the expected directions for EO data collection, storage processing and sharing over the next 5-10 years.  A wrap up of major national and international EO developments was also presented.

This webinar focussed on several major national initiatives that will have significant impacts on the longevity and funding provided for us to grow government and industry EO in Australia over the next 10-20 years. Timing of national inputs to these processes is limited, so it is essential we provide a community level response as effectively as possible!

For our second whole of community webinar discussion for 2016 we focussed on:

• The process of establishing an Australian EOS Community Plan, including an Australian Earth Observations from Space Infrastructure Blueprint,

• Inclusion of airborne and remotely piloted airborne imaging,

• Discussion of Australia’s role(s) in GEO.

In also had updates on:

• Australian Government Earth Observation from Space Working Group (Geoscience Australia, Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia),

• CEOS Australian activities for 2016,

• International and national EO progress,

• Developing Government-Research Industry Partnerships to reduce risk.

For our first whole of community discussion for 2016 we activated several activities started in December 2015 to:

• Begin the process of establishing an Australian EOS Community Plan, including an Australian Earth Observations from Space Infrastructure Blueprint,

• Begin the design of an Australian Earth Observation Conference for 2017.

There was also updates on:

• Australian Government Earth Observation from Space Working Group (Geoscience Australia, Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia),

• CEOS Australian activities for 2016,

• International and national EO progress.
