Whole of Community Meeting

Presented by Stuart Phinn, University of Queensland

Summary

At the time of writing this Australia now has at least one policy for a “Science and Industry Agency & Space Industry Program”  from one our political parties. In its justification and associated media support, it is entirely EO based, then as usual, this is nowhere to be seen as a building block or focus in the policy. This meeting reviewed the status of Australia’s nascent Space Capability Industry policies, providing a critical assessment and indication of why EO is the justification for this policy, but is not built by it.  We highlighted the potential paths for moving our community’s agenda and activities forward in this context so that EO is a pillar or building and delivering the capability of Australia’s future Space Industry.

Earth Observation (Research) Infrastructure for Australia - to 2026

Presented by Stuart Phinn, University of Queensland

Summary

At the recent NCRIS - Greater Impact Through Environmental Infrastructure Symposium a session was run on 17 May 2017 for Integrating Earth Observation for essential Environmental Monitoring in Australia.   This was a well-attended session but, unfortunately, we ran out of time to complete a full discussion and review of the presented material (see copy of presentation).

The discussion we did have highlighted the fact that our community needs to further identify and discuss EO infrastructure challenges and how to address them, so this was a significant first step that will enable us to do that (as soon as we can!).

Advancing AEOCCG &
Implementing The Australian EO Community Plan

Presented by Stuart Phinn, University of Queensland

Summary

At our previous whole of community meeting, on 14 February, we presented and had an open discussion about the proposed implementation process of the AEOCP and the formal establishment of AEOCCG operations, governance, funding, with a path to becoming an independently funded private-public entity.

At this meeting we presented and discussed the planned changes to the AEOCCG to enable it to implement the “Australian Earth Observation Community Plan 2026” and deliver significant advances to Australia’s EO capability across science, industry and government.

Advancing AEOCCG &
Implementing the Australian EO Community Plan

Presented by Stuart Phinn, University of Queensland

Summary

Towards the close of 2016 we saw the successful launch of the Australian Earth Observation Community Plan 2026 (AEOCP).  The plan has been well received across the private and public sectors and we are now moving into the implementation phase.

Implementing the AEOCP requires the formal establishment of AEOCCG operations, governance, funding, and a path to becoming an independently funded private-public entity. This will also link closely with directions in  the forthcoming NCRIS Research Infrastructure Roadmap and National Innovation and Science Agenda.

Whole of Community Meeting #11

Presented by Commonwealth and State Government EO Program Directors and Staff, CSIRO EO Program Directors, CRC Si, University researchers, Private Industry and Non-government groups.

Summary

This webinar focussed on several major national initiatives that will have significant impacts on the longevity and funding provided for us to grow government and industry EO in Australia over the next 10-20 years. Timing of national inputs to these processes is limited, so it is essential we provide a community level response as effectively as possible!
