SmartSat CRC research program higher degree scholarships

Expressions of interest sought

SmartSat CRC and its partners are looking to develop Australian space industry capacity.  Specifically this research program aims to provide Australia with sovereign real-time connectivity, surveillance and sensing over its land, sea and oceans. Particular themes are artificial intelligence, security & resiliency and space governance.

There are opportunities for Masters & PhD candidates to start in 2020.

Topic: Next Generation Earth Observation Analytics Services (aligned to SmartSat’s program 3)

A range of potential sub-topics will be considered, all of which require some form of industry partnership. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Earth Observation Analytic Solutions as products and services.

  • Commercially viable set of EO products and services able to be produced and delivered by current and next generation Australian companies in Australia and Globally (especially for water resources, agriculture, horticulture and infrastructure assessment).

  • Specifications to enable construction of next generation satellites and sensor systems by Australian and global satellite manufacturing companies to meet established industry needs.

  • Sovereign EO capability for Australia and significant dual use activities, enabling world leading sensor design and pre-operational testing across multiple environments to deliver industry, government and defence specific products and services that are benchmarked against known standards.

Successful candidates for these scholarships will benefit from:

  • Full and top-up scholarships, of up to three years maximum duration.

  • Working with the Remote Sensing Research Centre on applied R&D which aligns with SmartSat research programs.

  • Becoming a member of SmartSat and its graduate network, with opportunities for professional development though conferences and networking events

  • Expert advisers, (leaders of applied research groups in Australian universities and research institutes), partnered with extensive industry input

  • SmartSat facilitated industry placement opportunities.
